Memories, a small word that could carry the burden of a whole life. Every passing year, each
passing day, every moment that passes away, turns to a memory. Some are good, some are
bad, some are uneventful. Past is something that we are always told to not to live in, but we
never find a way past our past, as John Banville said, " The past beats inside me like a second
heart. "
It is said that past always finds its way to present, and what better way could be there to invade
than memories. We all have our blur memories of toddling, a bit more sharp memories of
reluctantly going school. Then we have memories of schools and friends that no memory could
replace, and are memories of college life. Apart from these, we have lots of unforgettable
moments with family. So much for a single word - memory.
So, what is the significance of the memories or past? We all want to preserve pleasant
moments, and lose, erase the unpleasant ones. But to be true, we all are result of what we did
in past. And bad memories are also as responsible as good memories. To make it more clear, I
will use another word for memory, a less pleasant one, that is EXPERIENCE. At this moment, I
would again like to borrow a quote from my memories, " Mistakes are result of lack of
experience, and experience is a result of mistakes in past. "
There's a proverb in English, "why cry over the cat spilt milk". It means there is no use resenting

what happened for it can't be changed. Same goes with memories, but for both good and bad
memories. Continuously recalling good memories won't retrieve them, nor the bad memories will
be erased or changed by crying over it.
Experience is a name given to the memory of every step you tread. We all learnt something in
the years we have spent living. And on the basis of our adventures, our experience is judged. It
won't be false to say that since our first step, till our last breath we gain experience. Anything we
can do is based on our experience or knowledge of others' experience. I would call it enough
talk on experience, so let's return to memories.
Memories also serve a purpose different from whatever we have discussed till now. This
purpose is to allow the deads to be alive. No, not as zombies, but in form of imagery, in one's
memories. It could easily be noticed, for we all have memories of our loved ones. And we never
want to lose them. As Shakespeare said, *not marbled nor the guilded monuments", no building,
no monument could outlast the memory.
It's fair to have memories, it's even better to learn from them but the best is to create them.
Creating memories is similar as shaping future, if you get the knowledge of it, no challenges
could sever you. On this note, I will conclude my text in one sentence, " Memories are way to
past and key to future. ",
